IHW 2004: It's time to be open about herpes
Final details of the fifth International Herpes Week (10th-16th October 2004) are now available. The theme for the Week, 'I have herpes, don't you', highlights the fact that the viruses which cause genital and facial herpes are extremely common - the IHA has estimated that at least 50% of the world's population carries HSV-1, HSV-2 or both.

Face-to-face with facial herpes



A comprehensive new section on facial herpes has been added to the IHA website. This is in recognition of the fact that almost a third of visitors to the site have facial herpes: the results of the online voting poll which ran from April to July 2004 revealed that around 18% of visitors have facial herpes, while 12% have both genital and facial herpes.

Genital HSV-1 infection on the increase in Australia
The proportion of genital herpes caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) has increased in Australian patients over the past 25 years, although HSV-2 is still the most common cause of genital infection.
