plans for International Herpes Week 2004 (10-16 October 2004) are currently
being finalised. The theme for the week will be I have herpes, don't you?
This highlights the fact that herpes is an extremely common condition
and so there is absolutely no reason for people affected to feel embarrassed
or ashamed.

Results of the first IHA Voting Poll announced
The
first online voting poll on the IHA website went live on 13 April 2004.
Since then, just under 600 people have taken part by answering two short
questions. The responses have provided a useful insight into the types
of people who are accessing the website and will allow the IHA to tailor
the information available to meet their needs more closely.

appropriate screening when they return, according to a paper published

Stigma surrounding STDs a threat to the UK's health
There is a lack of understanding among the public of the type of services
available for the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
(STDs) in the UK and how to access them. More worryingly, the stigma associated
with STDs is preventing some people from seeking the help they need and
according to the FPA (formerly the Family Planning Association) is a 'threat
to the nation's health'. These are the findings of new research released
to coincide with Sexual Health Week in the UK.
